Two Kent State women’s basketball players have been suspended indefinitely from the team because of their legal troubles.

Sophomore guard Jamilah Humes and junior guard ChyTearra Kintchen, a transfer from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo., are facing fifth-degree felony charges stemming from an incident where they allegedly received a stolen debit card.

The players’ preliminary hearing was delayed from last Friday until Sept. 14.

Director of Athletics Laing Kennedy said the discipline was carried out according to policy.

“If a student-athlete is out of season and charged with a felony, they are suspended from all team activity,” Kennedy said. “Their scholarship, financial aid, remains intact, their academic support remains intact, their sports medicine remains intact, pending legal outcome of their situation.”

Humes would have been the Flashes’ leading returning scorer. She made the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team last season after averaging 9 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists per game.

Kintchen could have also seen time at guard. She averaged 17.6 points and 4.6 assists a game last season at Jefferson, a junior college.

Women’s basketball coach Bob Lindsay could not be reached for comment.
