Two Kent State women’s basketball players have been suspended indefinitely from the team because of their legal troubles.

Sophomore guard Jamilah Humes and junior guard ChyTearra Kintchen, a transfer from Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Mo., are facing fifth-degree felony charges stemming from an incident where they allegedly received a stolen debit card.

The players’ preliminary hearing was delayed from last Friday until Sept. 14.

According to the press release announcing the suspension, “Humes and Kintchen will remain in school and retain their scholarships as well as medical and academic support, but may not participate in any team-related activities pending the outcome of their legal proceedings.”

Humes would have been the Flashes’ leading returning scorer. She made the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team last season after averaging 9 points, 2.8 rebounds and two assists per game.

Kintchen could have also seen time at guard. She averaged 17.6 points and 4.6 assists a game last season at Jefferson, a junior college.

Director of Athletics Laing Kennedy and women’s basketball coach Bob Lindsay could not be reached for comment.
