Council to re-evaluate parking
May 2, 2007
Kent City Council voted last night to bring the issue of parking on the Main Street bridge into discussion at next week’s meeting.
Ward 2 Councilwoman Carrie Gavriloff brought the issue to the table at the end of the meeting.
“The parking on the bridge was a two-year project,” she said. “We’re coming up on the two-year mark and I think it’s time we talk about that again.”
The bridge is located on Main Street between River Street and Franklin Avenue in downtown Kent.
Councilman-at-large Michael DeLeone gave positive feedback about the controversial parking spaces.
“On my way here tonight, I saw all 17 spaces filled,” DeLeone said.
The bridge was approved for construction in October 2004 and was finished in 2005 for about $3,000. The idea for the project came from recommendations from the Parking Action Committee. This summer marks the end of the two-year trial period.
