After having their game against Wooster rained out on Wednesday and barely being able to get through a snow-filled three-game set versus Northern Illinois before that, the Kent State baseball team will attempt to start a weekend series 3 p.m. today at Ball State.

The Flashes (12-19, 4-5 Mid-American Conference) come in to today’s game in second place in the MAC East, six games behind first-place Miami.

Ball State (13-18, 3-6 MAC) is currently in last place in the MAC West. At the beginning of the season, the Cardinals were picked to finish second in the West division.

Both Kent State and Ball State are 2-6 in their last eight games. Last year, Ball State defeated Kent State twice in the MAC tournament.

In his last start, junior pitcher Evan Smith (1-3), today’s projected starter for Kent State, picked up a loss after going 5.1 innings despite surrendering only one earned run. Opponents are hitting just .225 against Smith, who has a 2.00 ERA.

The Flashes will start freshman Kyle Smith (2-2, 4.41 ERA) and senior J.J Pacella (1-4, 5.12 ERA) on Saturday and Sunday.

In three games last weekend, sophomore infielder Chris Tremblay scored three runs and drove in three more while junior infielder Doug Sanders and sophomore corner infielder Brad Winter both had two RBIs and a homerun.
