‘Spirit of Women’ event to raise money for scholarship fund
February 28, 2007
The Women’s Resource Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the Spirit of Women annual scholarship reception and silent auction.
It will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 6 in the Student Center Ballroom.
Hilda Pettit, coordinator of the Women’s Resource Center, said they have been collecting personal heartwarming tributes of women who have made a difference.
Pettit said they not only include stories of professional success, but personal success as well, such as community development.
“It’s not about choosing a woman, it’s recognizing that all women are important,” she said. “It’s an avenue of recognizing women who might not otherwise be recognized.”
The honored women will be recognized at the scholarship reception though the Spirit of Women Wall of Fame and a personalized letter. They will also be recognized on the Women’s Resource Center Web site.
“It’s really about letting them know we value their contributions, whatever they are,” Pettit said.
Guest speaker Margaret Mascio Medzie, Northeast Ohio regional community director for the American Cancer Society, will discuss women and the choices they make in life.
Pettit invites people to “Come, eat food, have a lot of fun, socialize and bid on the auction items.”
She said they will have plenty of food options such as hors d’ouvres, fancy finger foods, desserts, a coffee bar and a cash bar.
“There’s something for everyone,” she said.
Pettit said the purpose of the event is to raise money for the scholarship they present to a different woman each year. Last year more than 100 people attended the event.
Event proceeds support the Women’s Resource Center endowed scholarship fund, services and programs the center provides.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by contacting Pettit at (330) 672-9230 or [email protected].
Discounted tickets are available with a donation to the auction.
