Web Exclusive: PRSSA networking event to be held today
November 2, 2006
The Kent State Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will hold its third annual networking event at 6 p.m. in the Eastway Private Dining Room. The event is also sponsored by the Akron Area Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
At the event, students will have the opportunity to meet with public relations professionals and discuss topics such as job opportunities and internships.
Amanda Vasil, vice president of professional relations for PRSSA, is responsible for setting up the networking event.
“I think it’s a really nice way for students to get a good idea of what their internship could possibly be like,” she said.
The event was started to bring networking opportunities to students who may not have the time or money to travel to national networking events. Vasil said this makes sense because students are getting the opportunity to talk with potential employers from the area as opposed to employers from the opposite side of the country.
Carrie Kandes, president of the Akron chapter of PRSA, said the event is good for professionals to attend as well.
“It gives a lot of our professionals a chance to go back to their alma mater, since many of them are Kent State grads,” she said.
Vasil said the professionals pick the topics they want to talk about and students rotate from table to table and talk to each professional about their chosen topic.
