The Kent State soccer team hopes to continue its winning ways this weekend. The team is set to play Northern Illinois today and Western Michigan Sunday.

For the first time this season, the Flashes will look to win consecutive road games. The Flashes, who are on a three-game winning streak, started the current streak with a road victory over Miami.

Kent State defeated Miami 1-0, on Sept. 24, for its first win in 13 road matches.

Forward/midfielder Caitlin Hester has led the way during the winning streak. Her goal was the difference in the win at Miami, and she added a goal in both the Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan games.

Hester, who has played in all 12 games this season, leads the team in many offensive categories. She currently leads the team with four goals and shares the team lead in assists, with two. She also leads the team in total points with 12.

Although Hester is only a sophomore, she understands the importance of valuable team leadership.

“Last year, we had a lot of seniors who provided leadership,” Hester said. “Now that they graduated, it’s my turn to take over the leadership role.”

While the team is still learning to win on the road, at home the Flashes are a perfect 5-0 this season, and dating back to last year, they have won 10 straight home contests.

Kent State’s last home loss was to Ball State Sept. 23, 2005.
