Mistakes late in the game proved to be the Kent State football team’s downfall in a 17-14 overtime loss against Army Saturday.

A 36-yard field goal by Army kicker Austin Miller was enough to hand Kent State its 11th straight loss.

But the Flashes put themselves in the situation after sophomore quarterback Julian Edelman committed the only fumble of the game to give Army possession at the beginning of overtime.

Kent State was also haunted by a missed field goal after an impressive offensive set to start the fourth quarter. Kicker Reid Macho was wide right on the 23-yard attempt.

Conversions on third and fourth downs were a problem for the Flashes. But a gamble on fourth-down and four mid-way through the fourth quarter proved successful when it led to a 15-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Najah Pruden from Edelman to tie the game at 14.

But the Flashes fell short of the comeback. They travel to Oxford next week to open their Mid-American Conference season against Miami.
