Attendance not required, no quizzes and no grades

Feel free to skip the quiz. It won’t be graded anyway.
Classes Without Quizzes is a series of four classes that will give students and alumni the chance to see how dining services and on-campus technology have evolved.
The course will be held Oct. 14 and split into two time slots.
It’s a new attempt at getting alumni involved with the campus.
“We wanted to bring them back to the campus that they remember,” said Elizabeth Slanina, assistant director for alumni relations.
The Alumni Association is attempting to appeal to the wide variety of student interests at Kent State. Association chapters’ members were asked to give feedback about what kinds of classes they would like to see.
“We used e-Flash to ask for general interest,” Slanina said. “Faculty helped plan the events as well.”
She said the association has received more feedback on the cooking session, though.
During the presentation, John Goehler, assistant director of dining services and certified chef through the American Culinary Federation, will prepare a main course, salad and desert.
Goehler has been in the food business for 39 years and enjoys the service aspect the most.
“We try to be proactive about comments students make in the dining halls and take care of any problems immediately,” Goehler said.
He routinely has on-campus training opportunities such as demos and teaching etiquette.
Slanina said dining services has come a long way since many of the alumni have graduated, and the presentation will bring them up-to-date. Although the classes are mainly geared toward alumni, Slanina said students are also invited to attend.
“Students should feel welcome, especially if they will never have a class (in a specific department),” she said adding that Kent State has one of the only 3-D classrooms in the State.
“It’s great that Kent State has it and students can take advantage of it.”
