President Cartwright says goodbye to EMSA staff
April 24, 2006
In what may be her last time as president, Carol Cartwright delivered the keynote address at the 11th annual Quality Service Awards Celebration yesterday morning.
“Although I’ll be watching from a different vantage point,” Cartwright said, “I will be cheering on the university and each of you with more pride than I have words to express.”
The ceremony recognized 10 categories of distinguished members in the division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Cartwright highlighted EMSA’s accomplishments during her presidency including expansions in Student Disability Services and the establishment of the Center for Student Involvement.
“As I look back on more than 15 years as president,” Cartwright said, “I want you to know that I consider my association with the talented, creative, dedicated and hard-working members of this division to be a privilege.”
A steering committee consisting of at least one representative from each office under EMSA chose winners from more than 85 nominees.
Pete Goldsmith, vice president for EMSA, hand-picked the Vice President’s Distinguished Service Award winners. He chose Brenda McKenzie, associate director for the Center for Student Involvement, and Allan Carroll, associate director for admissions.
Goldsmith also recognized the members of the Student Quality Advisory Committee.
“This group hangs in there, and we meet at 8 a.m. in the morning every other week,” Goldsmith said.
Graduating members of the committee were given certificates highlighting the university’s appreciation for their work.
Even if they didn’t win any awards, many attendees went home with door prizes including season tickets for Kent State football and basketball games, gift baskets and tanning certificates.
