Baseball will begin MAC season at WMU
March 24, 2006
The Kent State baseball team will start its Mid-American Conference season this weekend as it faces Western Michigan in a three-game series.
The Flashes (7-8) are coming off a three-game series of losses to Elon last weekend, but still rank No. 2 in the MAC East Division. Despite the losses, senior left fielder Kurt Eichorn was named MAC East Hitter of the Week. Eichorn went 7-of-11 in the series, hitting a double and two homeruns, while driving in six and scoring four runs.
Western Michigan (10-5) is No. 1 in the MAC West and swept Morehead State last weekend in a three-game series. For his contribution to the victories, the Broncos’ Zach Gentile, freshman infielder, was named MAC West Player of the Week. Gentile went 8-of-16 on the weekend with eight runs, one double, four home runs and seven RBIs.
The teams face off at 3 p.m. today at Hyames Field in Kalamazoo, Mich., for the Broncos’ home opener.
