Assistant architecture professor Adil Sharag-Eldin and fifth-year architecture student Jonathan Fry are going bald – for cancer research.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, works for a cure for childhood cancer and is hosting a head-shaving charity event Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at 91 Wood Fired Oven in Canton.

There will be a silent auction, a raffle and a buffet at 6 p.m. They will start shaving heads at 7 p.m.

On St. Baldrick’s Day, volunteers shave their heads in public as a sign of unity with childhood cancer patients who often lose their hair as a result of treatment.

Eleven volunteers have raised money from friends and family and will contribute those funds to St. Baldrick’s on Thursday. They will be getting their heads shaved by a stylist from GSV Design Group Salon.

“I think it will really encourage the students,” Sharag-Eldin said. “They can see the other side, the human side of us professors, and that we really do care about what’s going on.”

Sharag-Eldin’s head shaving will take place in the pit in the Gym Annex on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Volunteers who want to participate in this year’s event can register at www.stbaldricks.org until Wednesday. Volunteers can register to get their heads shaved, work the silent auction or sell raffle tickets.
