Softball to compete in Pirate Invitational

The Kent State softball team will compete in the Pirate Invitational this weekend after canceling its Wednesday home opener against Robert Morris due to weather conditions.
The tournament, hosted by East Carolina, will also include Coastal Carolina, California Berkeley, Buffalo and Penn State.
The Flashes (8-9) will face Penn State (14-3) at 10 a.m. today to start the tournament. The Lions are currently riding a 12-game winning streak and are No. 1 in the Big Ten.
Kent State will then play Coastal Carolina (17-13, 2-0 Big South) at 9 a.m. and California Berkeley (24-2) at 1 p.m. Saturday. To end the tournament, the Flashes will play East Carolina (19-11) at 3 p.m. Sunday.
The Flashes recently competed in the Ohio State Buckeye Invitational March 17 in which the team split the weekend 3-3. Sophomore outfielder Corey Houk was named to the all-tournament team for batting .333 with two runs scored, a double and a home run in three games.
