The Kent State baseball team opened up its 2006 season at Alabama over the weekend.

The Flashes fell in a three-game series that began Friday and ended yesterday afternoon.

Yesterday, the Flashes lost 6-1 after giving up five runs in the second.

“They did everything right in that second inning, and we did everything wrong,” Kent State coach Scott Stricklin said in a press release. “You take away that one inning. Evan Smith threw very, very well for us today.”

The Flashes and the Crimson Tide both posted only six hits, but the Crimson Tide managed to only leave three men on, whereas the Flashes stranded eight.

“We didn’t take advantage of our opportunities,” Stricklin said. “We hit the ball better than they did, but they (Alabama) executed better.”

The Flashes will be next in action at Lipscomb Friday in Nashville, Tenn.
