Kent resident dies in accident on I-76

A 22-year-old Kent resident died yesterday morning in a fatal car crash on I-76 after crossing the median and being hit by a semi truck.

Tyler Faust of 4918 Sunnybrook Road was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on I-76 in the right lane at 2:25 a.m., according to an Ohio State Highway Patrol press release.

Faust passed an SUV traveling westbound in the left lane, lost control and crossed the median, where he was struck by a Freightliner semi traveling eastbound on I-76.

He was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at the 36.5 milepost in Rootstown Township.

Faust’s vehicle, a 1996 Lincoln Town Car, was totaled.

Muliqi Ramiz, 32, of Rockford, Ill., who was driving the 2004 Freightliner semi, was not injured. The semi had extensive damage.

Catherine Towns, 18, of Grand Rapids, Mich., was driving the 2000 Dodge Durango. She was not injured, and her car received only minimal damage.

This accident was the 16th fatal crash in Portage County this year.
