Council members forget about election
November 9, 2005
SUGAR BUSH KNOLLS – Last week the 280-population village of Sugar Bush Knolls had nobody running for the four soon-to-be-vacant council seats.
Sitting members forgot to apply.
And village officials forgot to remind them.
“Frankly, there must have been something in the water,” said Mayor Nancy Carstensen. “They forgot their terms were up, and they had to take out petitions in August, and reapply.”
Hence, there was no election. Carstensen said three sitting council members, Barbara Harkness, Rita Nieman and Gary Knuth have been reappointed.
The fourth, Alan Ambuske, is a former mayor and a longtime council member. Carstensen said he felt it was time to step down, so council will appoint another member in the coming weeks to fill the six seats. These measures to fill the positions have been approved by village soliciter Jim Silver.
Sugar Bush Knolls, located in between Kent and Streetsboro, is the smallest village in Portage County.
