The second floor of the library will soon be the home of the Wick Poetry Corner.

Tomorrow, students will gather to listen to several readings by poets, including undergraduate Wick scholarship winners.

The event will run from 4 to 6 p.m. At 4:15 p.m., President Carol Cartwright, Provost Paul Gaston and Mark Weber, dean of libraries and media services, will speak.

The corner also will house the Tyler Lee Gaston Poetry Collection of 20th and 21st century poetry. The collection is dedicated in memory of Tyler Lee Gaston, son of Eileen and Paul Gaston, who was a senior English major and worked in the library. Tyler also was a poet.

The corner is also in honor of the Wick brothers, the center’s founders.

The Wick Poetry Corner was created to provide greater visibility to the Wick Center and provide a space for readings and gatherings, said Maggie Anderson, director of the Wick Center.

Margaret Maurer, head of cataloging and metadata at the library, has been in charge of making sure all materials have been purchased and will be ready for tomorrow.

“It is going to be a really good thing for the library and university,” she said. “They envisioned such a wonderful place for people to really interact with poetry.”
