Kent State is redesigning its Web site according to the tastes and preferences of students and faculty.

The university posted a questionnaire online requesting feedback about the current site, as well as expectations for the future site. The questionnaire can be viewed and filled out at http://imagine.kent.edu/surveytool/survey/test.asp?SurveyID=140

Lin Danes, Web site coordinator and team leader, said the new page is expected to launch in the summer of 2006.

According to Danes and Stefanie Moore, senior editorial communications specialist, the new Web site will feature easier navigation, a fresh design and an advancement in accessibility.

The redesign is a result of several factors, Danes and Moore said.

“Data from WebTrends, feedback to [email protected] and simply the need to remain competitive in the higher education market,” were all factors, the two said in an e-mail.

The change is welcome news to many students who have had negative experiences with the current site.

“I think the Web site is very hard to navigate through. I’ve had multiple problems, and I’ve had to call the help desk on numerous occasions,” said Justin Pitts, freshman visual communication design major.

Pitts is one of several students to express discontent about the university’s current Web site.

“I would change its organization because it doesn’t have very much organization to begin with,” he added.

The current site was launched in August 2002 and received only minor modifications in January 2003.
