Students who are interested in studying political processes in Washington next semester can attend informational meetings this week in Bowman Hall and the Student Center.

Rick Robyn, director of the Washington Program in National Issues and professor of political science, said the meeting will provide students with an overview of the internship program. Alumni who have studied in Washington will also be available to answer questions.

The informational meetings will take place at 7:30 tonight in room 222 of Bowman Hall and at 7 p.m. tomorrow in room 318 of the Student Center. Students need only to attend one of the two meetings because the same information will be discussed at both, Robyn said.

Applicants must have junior or senior status, a 2.7 minimum grade point average and have a focus in political science. Non-political science majors will only be considered for the program if he or she has taken at least two political science courses.

“Students can intern in Congress, the White House, state departments, Amnesty International, the National Organization of Women and the Washington Post,” Robyn said. “It is an extraordinary opportunity for students to see the inner workings of government and get hands-on experience.”
