After a 3-0 loss to Davidson on Friday, the Kent State women’s soccer team (2-3-1) lost two consecutive games for just the third time since 2003.

The Flashes traveled to Evanston, Ill. to compete against Davidson and Oakland in the Northwestern Wildcat Classic over the weekend. Davidson (2-3), on a three game losing streak of its own, did its damage early.

Two goals by Davidson midway in the first half, at the 24 and 36 minute marks, led the team’s offense. Late in the first half, Davidson scored again, increasing their comfortable lead at the half.

The Flashes may have been scoreless, but it was not from a lack of effort. They out shot Davidson 14-10.

The second half seemed to be more defensively effective as both teams were shut out.

One bright spot for the Flashes was when freshman Kristen Nelson came in the game during the final period and saved four goals.

In yesterday’s effort against Oakland (3-1-1), the Flashes were not able to defeat Oakland in a 1-1 tie. Kent State held Oakland to a scoreless first half, yet were not able to capitalize.

Consistent with the match, the even play continued in the second half when both teams scored within 30 seconds of each other.

Sophomore Lisa Kurtz scored at the 51:07 mark and was assisted by senior Jen Frey. Oakland’s senior Kristi Swaving converted one of her 13 shots at 50:41. Swaving outshot the entire Kent State squad, 13-10. Overall, Oakland raked in 26 shots on goal.

Nelson continued her success with 12 saves yesterday, two of which came in each of the scoreless overtime periods.
