Over dinner at Rockne’s last night, the Allocations Committee discussed new meeting times and organization requests from the previous summer meetings.

The Allocations Committee, headed by Kevin Folk, senator for business and finance, determines if potential events are beneficial to the entire student body.

“The committee connects undergraduate students to the student activity fees,” Folk said in a previous interview.

The committee set up the fall semester meeting time for 4:15 p.m. Fridays in the Governance Chambers. At these meetings, student organizations will present requests for funds, which will be heard tentatively beginning at 5 p.m.

Request forms can be downloaded on the Undergraduate Student Senate Web site, www.uss.kent.edu, or picked up at the Center for Student Involvement, room 226 of the Student Center, or the Undergraduate Student Senate office, located on the first floor of the Student Center.

At the last summer meeting, the Allocations Committee discussed a tabled request by PRIDE! Kent to fund an educational conference. The request goes against section 7D in the committee’s guidelines, which states only registration, travel, lodging and meals for main campus undergraduates attending a conference, convention, workshop or seminar will be eligible for funding.

PRIDE! Kent is expected to return to the next committee meeting to further discuss their request.

In addition, Judy Ripple, co-adviser for the Allocations Committee, discussed committee goals this fall.

She said the committee needs to come to a group consensus regarding motions for student requests.

During closed meeting times, the Allocations Committee has to get a good idea of what everyone is thinking, Ripple said. She also stressed that Folk needs to recognize when someone wishes to speak.

Folk said he plans to attend every funded student event. At least one committee member needs to attend events to see what the money was used for and an exact, reliable attendance count has to be taken.
