Kent churches offer place of worship, something for everyone

There are several options in Kent for places to worship. No matter what religion Kent State students follow, the city has something for everyone.
The Hillel Jewish Student Center is located at 202 North Lincoln St. There, service is held Fridays at 5:30 p.m. for Jewish and non-Jewish students.
“It’s the only Jewish organization in the county,” said Assistant Director Mike Levinstein.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary serves the Newman Center. It is located at 1424 Horning Road.
“We offer the same programs and ministries of any Catholic student organization,” full-time campus minister Nick Hosmer said, “plus meetings, retreats, and service projects.”
The First Christian Church of Stow has services at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel and 10:45 a.m. in the sanctuary on Sundays. The church is located at 3493 Darrow Road in Stow. The church also offers a weekly prayer service from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesdays in the chapel. The prayer service is an informal gathering for anyone wanting to join together in prayer.
The Faith Lutheran Church of Kent is only a minute’s walk from campus. The church is located at 931 E. Main St. Services are at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sundays during the school year.
The Stow Presbyterian Church is located just outside Kent at 4150 Fishcreek Road in Stow.
There are three services on Sunday mornings at 8:15, 9:30 and 10:45. The first service is contemporary, the second service is traditional and the third is blended. The contemporary service features a praise team and contemporary praise music with instruments like drums, woodwinds, harmonica, guitar and keyboard.
The traditional service is a congregational call to worship. There is recitation of the Lord’s Prayer and one of the church creeds and the doxology. Traditional hymns are led by the pastor and keyboardist. The blended service features a chancel choir and a mix of contemporary praise music and traditional hymns.
The Christian Life Center Assembly of God is located at 5931 Rhodes Road, and it holds services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Mid-week services are performed on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.
Also located on Rhodes Road is Grace Baptist Church. The church holds Sunday services at 9:30 a.m. Visit www.graceinkent.org for more information.
The United Methodist Church of Kent is located at 1435 E. Main St. Worship services are held at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Visit www.kentmethodist.org for more information.
For a non-denominational choice, Riverwood Community Chapel is located at 1407 Fairchild. Sunday services are held at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m.
