Kent State men’s golf competed in the Colleton River Collegiate Golf Tournament and finished seventh out of 15 universities. 

The two-day tournament, over March 2nd and March 3rd, was held by Michigan State University in Bluffton, SC. 

Senior golfer Chris Doody excelled at the tournament, coach Jon Mills said. “It was his first time in the lineup this fall and he was consistent each round.” 

Mills even said Doody is a reliable player on the team who can help get them the extra points they need.

While there are many parts to the game of golf, being consistent with your swing and how far you hit the ball is important as well.

When asked what the team needs to work on the most, Mills said the short game.  He said the difficulty in the short game these past two days is the reason the Flashes finished lower than expected.  

Mills said as the season plays on and the Flashes get further into the season, they will be able to improve on the small things they need to work on, as well as limit mistakes. 

Mills said the most important part of the game of golf is the short game and wedge game.  Those two alone, he said, can make or break a round for a player. He said it takes focus to be able to get better and improve these skills.       

Kent State will compete in its next tournament this Saturday in Myrtle Beach.
