Players leave men’s basketball
The Kent State’s men’s basketball team will have two more open scholarships to use because Marcus Crenshaw and Mechie Johnson have quit the team.
Johnson leaves after two years with the team. He was thought of as a great addition to the team when the Flashes recruited him, but Johnson was never given an opportunity to consistently play.
Johnson did, however, get a chance toward the end of the season. In the Flashes final two regular season games, he averaged 7 points and 17 minutes of playing time.
Crenshaw averaged 4.7 points in his freshman season. He played in all 33 games while starting five. Crenshaw added big-play ability to the Flashes’ lineup when he was hot, but he shot just 36.2 percent for the season.
Now the Flashes turn to filling those positions. Jon Han, a 6-foot point guard from New York, is a possibility to replace Crenshaw.
According to one publication, Han is scheduled to visit Kent State sometime this month. Han played last year with Tilton School, a prep school in New Hampshire.
Han has also received attention from Providence, Hawaii, Vermont and UConn; although, UConn has since filled its openings.
Crenshaw and Johnson are the third players to leave the program in the last two years. Last year, Cliff Brown exited the team after his sophomore season.
