Caffeine overdoses, stress and cramming surround exams every semester, but some methods of studying are a better workout than others.

Kent State will host the BFA Senior Dance Concert, “Modus Operandi,” at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Kiva.

The concert was created, produced and designed by graduating dance performance majors and sponsored by the School of Theatre and Dance.

“The BFA project has been an absolutely amazing and exhausting experience,” Senior dance performance major Lora Eves said. “We’ve had to do everything from stuffing envelopes to taping down floors to designing costumes to managing production finances.”

The seniors selected modern dance choreography to be performed by Kent State students.

The opening act, Sharon Dercoli’s “Crossing Pathways” Uses the music of Ralph Towner and the Europa String Choir. Throughout the selection Dercoli, senior dance major, portrays exploration for independence and strength through life and relationships.

Lora Eves and senior dance major Kate Elizabeth Leishman then team up in “Animated Espionage.” It features the music of Yoko Kano and The Seatbelts.

“Modern dance is whatever you want it to be,” Leishman said. “It is the greatest dance form because you can create to your inner artist, and we have done that with ‘Modus operarndi.’”

“Emerging Conversations” brings the show to a close choreographed by Leishman. It features music by Bobby McFerrin and Yo-Yo Ma which addresses “group dynamics and personal connections.”

“Each piece is so uniquely stunning and creative even a person who knows nothing of dance will walk away with some emotion and some satisfaction,” Leishman said.
