After delivering a speech to a crowd of fellow Greek organizations, Sigma Epsilon Chi president John McDiller kicked off Kent State’s annual “Woo Hoo! Yeah Dude!” week today by crushing a beer can on his head.
The week is a series of events aimed at promoting awareness and clearing misconceptions about fraternities and sororities on campus.
“When people think of Greeks, they think all we do is party and drink,” McDiller said. “That’s why we want the rest of Kent State to know that we also do other things.”
When asked what those “other things” were, McDiller said he forgot to turn off his apartment ceiling fan and ran off the stage.
The first “Woo Hoo! Yeah Dude!” event starts 7 p.m. tonight in the Kiva with a charity show for children with diabetes. The next six nights of events will consist of parties at Sarah McMiller’s house.
“Dude, this week is going to be so awesome,” Tau Iota Tau president Burt Thompson said. “I can’t wait to see the hurt face on Kent State when this week is done. They’ll be sorry for stereotyping us.”
