Bench Press Competition set for rec
March 15, 2005
The Student Recreation and Wellness Center will host a Bench Press Competition tomorrow from 7 to 10 p.m.
The competition will be held in the rec center’s multipurpose gym. Lifters can register until 4 p.m. the day of the competition, and the entry fee is $8 per students and $12 per members.
“It can be a competition between friends,” Fitness Coordinator Joy Polkabla Byers said. “This is the first year for the competition, and we want to show that it’s going to be a quality competition.”
The competition is pound-for-pound. Each participant will get three lifts and scores will be determined on the best lift, divided by the participant’s weight, Byers said. The objective is to lift as much as possible.
Rec center fitness and intramurals programs are working together to coordinate the event. There will be four different divisions:
male students
female students
male members
female members
All participants will receive a T-shirt for registering and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
The competition is being sponsored by PPS Nutrition and free nutrition supplement samples will be available.
“You’re going to get something out of it (the competition),” Byers said. “A lot of times, you don’t know how much you can lift. This is going to be fun and by holding the competition in the multipurpose gym, spectators can watch as well.”
Call Byers at (330) 672-4798 as soon as possible to sign-up.
