PRIDE!Kent receives $1,500 for ‘Hollywood Premiere Prom’
March 10, 2005
Undergraduate Student Senate Allocations Committee approved $1,502 last night for PRIDE!Kent’s “Hollywood Premiere Prom.”
The prom is a ’40s Hollywood theme, and guests are encouraged to dress up like their favorite movie star from the era.
“It’ll be fabulous,” PRIDE!Kent’s Vice President Jen Weissman said. “It is the premiere event of the spring semester. People are going all out, getting their attire ready.”
The prom will be an opportunity for students to relax and have fun before they start studying for finals, Weissman said.
“I’m really excited because I feel it’s an opportunity for people who were discriminated against at their high school proms to take who they want to prom,” said Joshua Muncy, sophomore fashion merchandising major and prom committee member.
The prom is open to people of all sexual orientations and preferences.
It will be held at 8 p.m. April 9 in the Multicultural Center in the Student Center. Admission is free for Kent State students and $2 for non-students.
Students who wish to be nominated for prom court should contact PRIDE!Kent at its meetings 8 p.m. Thursdays in room 309 of the Student Center.
