The Allocations Committee approved two requests and denied two requests for allocations from the Kent State International Socialist Organization last night.

The Kent State International Socialist Organization requested funds from the committee to bring four different speakers to campus this semester.

The Allocations Committee approved funding the presentations “Socialism and Women’s Liberation” and “Abolishing the Death Penalty.”

Sharon Smith, who writes for the Socialist Worker newspaper, will speak for “Socialism and Women’s Liberation.” “Abolishing the Death Penalty” will feature exonerated Death Row inmate Shujaa Graham, who will speak about his experience with the U.S. justice system.

The presentations “The Relevance of Socialism in 2005” and “Resistance Among Soldiers” were not funded because the committee said they seemed too focused on promoting a political agenda.

Jeremy Radabaugh, president of the socialist organization, said he is sure the speakers would draw a crowd.

“Ever since we started as a branch, we’ve filled the rooms,” Radabaugh said, adding that the group formed last semester. “They’re definitely worth hearing.”
