The disappointing weekends for Kent State sports continued with gymnastics Saturday.

The Flashes posted a 192.975. The score is the lowest of the season since the Jan. 21 meet at Oklahoma. The Flashes ended their three-meet road trip at the Eastern Michigan Invite but didn’t manage to end the stretch of road with a win.

Even though the No. 18 Flashes (8-7, 4-2 Mid-American Conference) were the highest ranked of the four competing teams, the Flashes placed last in the meet.

Saturday was the last chance of the season to defeat West Virginia (12-5) once again. The Flashes opened the season with a win over the Mountaineers but lost to the Mountaineers last week at the West Virginia Quad. The Flashes finished the season 1-2 against West Virginia this year.

The No. 31 Mountaineers finished first, scoring 194.850. Fellow MAC team, No. 46 Eastern Michigan (9-8, 3-5 MAC) finished second with a 194.175 followed by No. 20 Southern Utah’s (6-5) 193.9.

Despite the loss, the Flashes still placed in the top five in all four events.

Junior Carrie Mayle placed third in the all-around with a 38.875. Mayle’s 9.775 vault score tied for fourth place.

On the beam, senior Erika Linnersten took the top score of 9.9, followed by Mayle’s 9.850.

The Flashes also placed fourth on the uneven bars with freshman Kristin Peters’ 9.675. Fellow freshman Phylicia Robertson tied for second place on the floor exercise with a 9.875 score.

The Flashes will host Ohio State and MAC rival Bowling Green at the All-Ohio Meet Saturday before heading off to the MAC Championships.
