Nobel Peace Prize nominee to speak about experiences

A 2005 Nobel Peace Prize nominee will be speaking at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow in Room 133, Lecture Hall A, of Bowman Hall.

Michael Scharf’s presentation will focus on his experiences with the Iraqi Special Tribunal for Crimes Against Humanity.

He is one of five international experts who trained the Iraqi Special Tribunal Judges who will preside over Saddam Hussein’s trial.

Scharf is a professor at the Case Western Reserve School of Law and director of the Cox International Law Center at Case Western.

Math conference brings ideas from all over the world

The department of mathematical sciences will hold the Infinite Dimensional Analysis Conference today through Sunday.

The conference is a joint venture of Kent State and the University of Valencia.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. at the Samsung Auditorium in the Liquid Crystal Institute.

The conference will feature more than 50 speakers from various universities all over the world.

Schwebel guest to speak today about hospitality industry

The Schwebel Guest Lecture Series welcomes Valerie Ferguson, regional vice president and managing director of Loews Philadelphia Hotel, at 4 p.m. today in the first floor lounge of Eastway Center.

Ferguson, past chairwoman of the American Hotel and Lodging Association and associate director of the National Restaurant Association, will be speaking about the importance of lodging and hotels in the hospitality industry.

Her speech, titled “Lodging as a Vital Force in the Economy,” is the 11th in the annual series sponsored by the School of Family and Consumer Studies. Past lecturers have included CEOs, chefs and editors.

The event is free and open to the public.
