Last week’s column on the UFO coverup ended with a teaser about the Mayan calendar, which comes to an intriguing conclusion on Dec. 21, 2012. Many UFOlogists believe the reason there’s been so much UFO activity over the past 60 years is because our ET visitors are eager to witness what’s going to happen here in 2012.

The Mayan calendar differs from our Gregorian calendar in several key aspects. The Gregorian measures a solar year, but is otherwise divided in an arbitrary way. Thus, Mayan scholar Jose Arguelles calls it, “an erroneous timing frequency.”

The ancient Maya had an extremely advanced understanding of mathematics and astronomy. Their calendar is therefore based upon galactic constants that are in tune with nature and the cosmos. This lends it a much greater legitimacy than the Gregorian.

The Mayans charted multiple cycles of 365, 360 and 260 days. A solar year is composed of 13 months of 28 days each, based on lunar cycles. This equals 364 days, and instead of silly leap years, the Mayan calendar adds the Day Out of Time each year to compensate.

Arguelles theorizes that living by the erroneous Gregorian frequency has dampened humanity’s collective telepathy, and that switching to the 13-moon calendar would help re-activate these abilities and bring society back in sync with nature (see www.lawoftime.org.)

The Long Count is what brings 2012 into play, when the 26,000 year cycle known as the Precession of the Equinoxes concludes. This charts Earth’s passage around the galaxy and into alignment with the galactic equator. While some alarmists envision a pole-shift to end the world, researcher John Major Jenkins paints a more optimistic picture in his book, “Maya Cosmogenesis 2012:”

“The ancient Maya understood something about the nature of the cosmos and the spiritual evolution of humanity that has gone unrecognized in our own worldview. This understanding involves our alignment with the center of our Galaxy … and identifies 2012 as a time of tremendous transformation … a transition from one world age to another …. (The Maya) believed that specific types of alignments in the cycle of precession stimulate evolution for life on Earth.

“Western civilization is now confronting its own shadow in the form of global pollution, institutionalized corporate greed and political instability. Fortunately, social upheavals and changes in the last 30 years indicate that we already appear to be moving in a direction that celebrates co-creation … and working together rather than violence, conquest and force….”

Jenkins’ research indicates that the 2012 alignment heralds a metaphysical shift in the collective consciousness. Science tells us that humans only use roughly 10 percent of our brains. What if the dormant gray matter were re-activated by this shift?

Despite what the preponderance of red states might indicate, humanity has indeed been moving in a more progressive direction since the 1960s. The Mayan calendar points to a privileged opportunity in time to create a new age of harmony.

But it’s not a done deal — this writer would submit that the powers-that-be are aware of this impending opportunity for humanity and therefore seek to plunge the planet into as much chaos and fear as possible in an avaristic effort to maintain their elitist position.

Don’t let the Neo-cons fool you — the good people of humanity far outnumber the greedy powermongers. Things may appear grim, but this is actually our chance. The year 2012 awaits…
