Parking Services revealed its new additions during a forum at the Undergraduate Student Senate meeting last night.

“You can appeal a ticket online,” said Larry Emling, assistant manager of Parking Services. “You can also pay a ticket online and avoid the late fees.”

Sen. Amber Samuelson asked about the expensive prices of student parking passes.

“The cost of doing business has just gone up over the years,” Emling said. “All the money that goes into parking goes back into the parking lots.”

Revenue is spent on parking lot repair, lighting, security and snow removal.

“The more it snows, the more we pay,” Emling said.

Parking Services has already spent more than $130,000 this year on snowplowing.

Samuelson also said some students do not know they have received a parking ticket until they check their Bursar’s account.

“Is there a way that you can e-mail notify (students)?” Samuelson asked.

Emling said he would look into that option, and he encouraged students to contact Parking Services by telephone or e-mail with any suggestions or concerns they have.

“We’re trying to be as accommodating as possible in meeting the needs of faculty, staff, students and visitors,” Emling said.
