Gymnastics team faces BGSU
February 4, 2005
The Kent State gymnastics team will look to keep its perfect Mid-American Conference record tonight at 7 against the Bowling Green Falcons (1-3, 1-2 MAC).
The Flashes (2-1, 1-0 MAC) have won their last three matchups against the Falcons.
Since last week’s dominating win over Ball State, the Flashes have seen their rankings change dramatically. The Flashes are now ranked No. 37 nationally, jumping 12 spots from last week’s No. 49 ranking. The Flashes are also ranked No. 31 on the uneven bars and the balance beam.
In the MAC, the Flashes also are only behind No. 1 Central Michigan and tonight’s opponent, No. 2 Bowling Green. The Flashes only trail Bowling Green’s team average by a mere one-tenth of a point.
Nationally, junior Carrie Mayle is now ranked No. 43 all-around. Mayle won the meet all-around in last week’s victory. In the floor exercise, Mayle is tied for No. 21 along with sophomore Amy Cucinotta. Mayle is also ranked the No. 1 all-around gymnast in the MAC with an average score of 38.825.
Senior Erika Linnersten is also looking for her third consecutive week placing first on the balance beam. In that event, Linnersten is tied for No. 26 nationally and ranked No. 1 in the MAC.
