Commmittee forms to educate Kent about levy renewal

The Kent City Finance Committee discussed the upcoming renewal levy at last night’s meeting. A motion to start a committee to inform the community about the importance of the levy was passed. The committee will be run strictly on a volunteer basis.

While Councilman Edward Bargerstock stressed the importance of not going overboard with levy promotions, other council members stated that it is important that the public be well-informed concerning this issue.

“We are offering them information so they can make an educated decision,” Councilman Garret Ferrara said.

In other council business:

n The council approved the Western Reserve Folk Arts Festival Committee’s request for $3,000. The money will be used to help fund an upcoming event, which will be held in two weeks.

n Plans to build an accessibility ramp at Ray’s Place that meets Americans with Disabilities Act standards have been approved, with a few additional provisions from the council. The ramp will extend into the sidewalk right of way, but there will still be roughly 5 feet of walking space between the ramp and the curb.

In addition to making the establishment more accessible, the ramp will help keep lines from clogging the sidewalk with people during busy times such as Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day.
