Special election for USS today

Students can vote from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today online for Undergraduate Student Senate’s senator for university affairs. Students can cast votes at the USS Web site, uss.kent.edu.

The senator for university affairs is responsible for appointing members to various university committees and overseeing the new judicial affairs program.

There are seven candidates: Kimberly Bean, Valerie Fatica, Amy Groya, John McConnell, Doug Tayek and Janda Wallace. Students can read candidates’ biographies on the USS Web site.

Earlier this week, several students who were running for the position dropped out of the race.

“I think the general reason was that people didn’t think they had enough time to devote to run a campaign,” Executive Director Gary Broadbent said.

The race will be close because there are seven candidates, Broadbent said.

“I think the person who gets 200 votes will probably be the winner,” Broadbent said.

The results of the election will be announced after 4 p.m. today on the plasma screen television in the Student Center, Broadbent said. The new senator will be inaugurated at tonight’s USS meeting.
