Alleged sorority stalker’s bond modified to exclude house arrest

Alleged sorority stalker Steven Franzreb appears in front of Portage County Common Pleas Judge Becky Doherty for a pretrial hearing on Tuesday.

Alleged sorority stalker Steven Franzreb’s bond was modified to exclude electronic monitored house arrest during a pretrial hearing on Tuesday.

Franzerb, 44, of North Royalton, has been out on a $50,000 cash bond since Oct. 18. Although he is no longer restricted to staying inside his house, he will continue to be monitored through a GPS locator. Franzreb remains restricted from any contact with the alleged victims.

Portage County Common Pleas Judge Becky Doherty also ordered Franzreb to complete a mental health assessment during his time on bond before his next pretrial. Doherty and Franzreb signed a document to waive Franzreb’s right to a speedy trial within the time frame of 270 days, allowing the court to set a trial date outside of that time frame.

Franzreb is accused of three instances of appearing on the porches of sorority houses on Fraternity Circle, including Alpha Phi’s house twice and Delta Gamma’s house once. He was caught on a doorbell camera wearing only a red Speedo swimsuit with writing on his chest and touching himself inappropriately.

He is charged with two counts of menacing by stalking, both fourth-degree felonies, and two counts of public indecency; one is a third-degree misdemeanor and the other is a second-degree misdemeanor.

Doherty scheduled a pretrial hearing for Franzreb on April 29 at 9 a.m. and a tentative trial date for May 12, if one is needed.
