Spring Career Fair to feature more than 140 employers
February 13, 2020
With peak recruiting season for internships right around the corner, over 140 employers have signed up to attend the Spring Career Fair at Kent State.
“We are expecting anywhere from 1,200-1,500 students to attend,” said Aryanna Sciranka, spokesperson for Career Services.
The Career Fair will be Feb 20 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Beverly J. Warren Recreation and Wellness Center.
Students should register through Handshake before the Career Fair. The students who pre-register will be entered into a drawing for 20 $50 Flashcash prizes.
Robin Pijor, associate director for Career Exploration and Development, said, “We want every student to say, ‘there was someone at the career fair for me.’”
Pijor said the Career Fair gets new employers every semester, but it does have a lot of returning employers. This year there will be a wide variety of employers. The new employers this year include: GBS Corp., Great Lakes Cheese, Airgas Merchant Gases and Merigold Catering and Events
Janelle Belcher, junior zoology major said, “I’m trying to find an internship. I struggle at career fairs because a lot of them don’t have employers for my major and if they do they are very informal.”
Students can see all the attending employers on Handshake. They can filter to specific industries under each employer, and students will be able to see what employers will be looking for during the Career Fair.
A week before the fair there will be a map available of where each employer will be located within the rec center.
Sciranka said students should come in professional attire with several copies of their resumes. She suggested students also come with a padfolio to stay organized.
Sciranka said students should go to the Career Services website to see ideas and more tips to prepare for the fair.
During the Career Fair, there will be free LinkedIn head shots and the Women’s Center‘s Career Closet for students to get professional attire. There will be a refresh station again this year, which will have water, coffee and staff there to help answer questions.
If students have not set up their Handshake account, they can at the refresh station. Students who set up Handshake accounts at the station will be entered in a drawing where they will be giving away 20 $50 Flashcash prizes.
