The certified platinum, internet sensation that is Yung Gravy, often known as “your mom’s favorite rapper,” will headline Kent State Undergraduate Student Government’s Homecoming Concert.
Yung Gravy’s humorist lyrics in songs such as “Mr. Clean” and “Welcome to Chilis” garnered him hundreds of millions of streams and a large following affectionately called the “Gravy Train.” Likewise, his social media presence on platforms such as TikTok, where he regularly receives millions of views, have made him a household name with young fans.
“Kent State USG Programming has traditionally booked a lot of artists who are on the rise,” Matt Clark, director of programming for USG, said in a statement to KentWired. “Yung Gravy is no different; throughout the summer, you could not go anywhere on social media without seeing him.”
USG announced the concert Wednesday morning via its Instagram page where the post has since garnered more than 400 likes in under an hour. Positive reactions from students followed immediately, with one student commenting “Y’all really outdid yourselves with this one.”
The event is a part of USG’s goal to provide high-quality programming on campus.
“This is just the start for USG programming, and we hope to bring the student body many more great events this year,” Clark said.
The concert will take place on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. DJ Smillz, a Kent DJ who opened for Quavo at USG’s spring concert, will perform as the concert opener. Tickets were $20 on the Kent State ticketing website, and students had to be logged in to their university account first to see the event. Tickets sold out within four hours of the event being announced.
