Football loses MAC battle against Miami

Kent State’s football team lost 27-24 to Miami (OH) Saturday in Oxford. The Flashes trailed the entire game.
KSU falls to 2-4 on the season and is now 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
On the second drive of the game, Miami blocked Kent State’s field goal.
Then two drives later, Miami recovered a fumble after graduate student wide receiver Raymond James dropped the punt. The RedHawks recovered the punt at Kent State’s 31-yard line. Miami ended with a field goal.
After a three and out by Kent State, the RedHawks opened up the drive with a 76-yard pass, putting them at the 2-yard line. The very next play, redshirt junior running back Tyre Shelton ran it for a touchdown putting the lead up to 10-0 in the first quarter.
Miami went up 17-0 on its next drive after a 41-yard touchdown run.
Redshirt junior Collin Schlee threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Redshirt junior wide receiver Dante Cephas had 118 receiving yards and a touchdown in the game. Redshirt sophomore Devontez Walker had 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The ninth-ranked run defense in the country held star junior running back Marquez Cooper to just 34 rushing yards in the game. The Flashes did not have the same success against the run, giving up 236 rushing yards in the game.
Kent State gave up 236 rushing yards in the game. Three different Miami rushers had over 50 yards.
