After leading the Kent State men’s basketball team to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2017, redshirt seniors Sincere Carry and Miyrne Thomas declared for the NBA draft. 

Carry came to the Flashes in the 2021-22 season after spending his first two seasons at Duquesne. 

During his first season at KSU, Carry averaged 17.9 points, winning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year while also being selected to the All-MAC Defensive Team. 

In the 2022-23 season, expectations for Carry were high as he was selected on the First Team All-MAC Preseason Team. 

After scoring 609 points the season prior – fifth most in program history, Carry totaled 613 points, leading to the first MAC tournament championship in six years and winning tournament MVP.

Carry added another All-MAC First and Defensive team honors in his final season with the Flashes.

“I want to thank my coaches and teammates … for having my back and creating memories that I will never forget,” Carry said on his personal Instagram. “I’m now ready and focused on taking the next step.”

Thomas, who spent the previous four seasons at Ball State, transferred to Kent State for his final year of eligibility. 

He led the team in 3-pointers made (68) and grabbed a team-high 192 rebounds – seventh in the MAC. 

“I will continue to weigh all options, but my goal is to play in the NBA,” Thomas said on his personal Instagram. “I can’t wait for my next chapter!”

The last time a player from Kent State heard their name called during the draft was in 1980 when the Kansas City Kings selected Trent Grooms. 

Only six players from KSU have been drafted in program history. 

Currently, there are no active NBA players from Kent State – the last Flash to make an appearance was John Edwards in 2006.
