Great Ohio Bicyclists travel through Kent
June 21, 2023
Outdoor Pursuits is hosting the annual Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure June 21-23. The bikers will be making their way through Northeast Ohio and will be traveling through Portage County during their weeklong competition.
Since 1989, Outdoor Pursuits has hosted the event. Over 1,100 registered cyclists will be riding between 177 to 455 miles on their journey. On Wednesday, the bikers will be stopping for lunch at the Church of Aurora parking lot and will be able to purchase food from the Aurora Rotary Club.
Throughout the cyclists’ journey, they will be camping in four different locations. Three nights in one location, two nights in Kent, and two single nights in separate areas.
According to The Portager, the bikers pack up their bags and luggage, load it all into a semi and then ride to the next town.
June 22 will be the day that many riders will choose different routes because they have to ride a total of 100 miles. Some stay in the Kent area while others choose to go to Alliance or ride a 50-mile loop.
This year for the first time, the race will be taking place in the Northeastern part of the state. Returning riders shared their excitement about this fact, along with how well they believe the cities to have prepared for an event of this scale.
