Despite losing two games last weekend, Kent State’s field hockey team remains ranked in the country’s top 25 teams.
The Flashes are No. 24 in the country after losing to No. 1 Michigan 2-1 and Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan 1-0.
The Wolverines, who beat then-No. 25 Michigan State 6-1 before playing KSU, dropped to No. 2 behind Iowa.
KSU dominated offensively against Central Michigan but still came out with the loss against the Flashes’ second MAC opponent of the year.
Kent State played evenly for three and a half periods with No. 1 Michigan. The Wolverines scored the game-winning goal with just over seven minutes to play.
In the Rating Percentage Index (RPI), a ranking system based on a team’s record and strength of schedule, the Flashes ranked 21st. Kent State has played five ranked teams and won three of them.
Before this week, Kent State had been ranked 23rd for three straight weeks.
