Kent State’s College Dems announced that due to requests from U.S. Rep Beto O’Rourke’s team, O’Rourke will now move indoors to Kent State Student Center Room 306ABC. O’Rourke was previously planning to meet students on Risman Plaza.
Brett Pucillo, the founder and former member of Ohio Carry has announced his intent to open carry during O’Rourke’s speech. Pucillo expects 10-12 people to show.
Pucillo said he wants “to provide a little education to those who may not know much about guns or gun rights, in general.”
“We do think it’s important to show the people that do show up to hear (Beto) that the kind of people that he’s talking about taking guns from are typically very average people who are very peaceful in general,” Pucillo said.
Pucillo said his brother, Eric Pucillo, will start the walk near the Student Center around 6:15 p.m.
Black United Students released a statement over Twitter stating that “due to the unpredictability of the open carry demonstrators, we advise all black students to avoid contact with the demonstration on Risman Plaza.”
