Kent State women’s field hockey (3-3) road woes continue with a 1-2 loss to Fairfield University (4-1) on Friday. 

The Flashes had a rough day offensively, only taking seven total shots. The Flashes had five penalty opportunities.  

“We were unable to score on penalty corners and were trying to force the ball through the top of the circle and just weren’t finding those possession passes and working the ball around,” coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer said. “Overall we were just not maintaining possession on our attacking end.”

Kent’s only goal came late in the fourth period by freshman forward Claudia Ortiz. 

“That was her first career goal and we’ve been waiting for her to score since she got here,” DeSandes-Moyer said. “She’s a goal scorer and hopefully we can continue to build from here.”

Fairfield’s goals came in the third and fourth period and were scored by sophomore defensive player Luzi Persiehl and freshman attacker and midfielder Page Lowry.

“Generally, we didn’t make the adjustments that we talked about at quarter time and it resulted in those goals,” DeSandes-Moyer said. 

Kent State junior goalkeeper Azure Fernsler recorded three saves on the afternoon. 

“Our team just needs to make the adjustments that the coaching staff gave them and play Kent State field hockey’s game and we’ll be successful,” DeSandes-Moyer said.

The Flashes look to bounce back when they take on Saint Louis University (0-4) at 3 p.m. on the road Sunday.
