From taking part in winning the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championship to becoming the youngest Football Bowl Subdivision head coach at 31, the head coach of Kent State football Sean Lewis has made a name for himself in many places.

That continued this month, when Lewis was honored by having a sandwich named after him at Twisted Meltz at 164 E. Main St. in Kent. 

The “Sean Lewis” includes two Angus beef patties, layered with American cheese, thick cut applewood bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and jalapeño peppers on a toasted potato bun for $8.99. The sandwich originally did not have the jalapeños until Lewis asked about adding to it.

“I was like, ‘Can we throw pepper jack cheese on it?’” Lewis said while waiting for his order at the downtown shop Sunday. “And they said, ‘Actually we can’t, but we’ll throw jalapenos on it.’”

Lewis’s name was placed alongside others on the menu such as Steve Harvey, Michael Keaton and Drew Carey.

“Honestly, I felt that I hadn’t done enough, you know, to get up there with these names,” Lewis said, continuing to wait for his family’s dinner to be prepared.

Lewis’s is the only person to have a sandwich named after him who did not attend Kent State as a student, according to Kent State’s Sports website.

Lewis enters his second season as the Golden Flashes’ head coach this fall.

“We want to put the team on the map on the national level,” Lewis said. “We have a great group of guys right now.”

Lewis left after receiving his order: one “Sean Lewis” for him and different sandwiches for his wife and children.
