Music fans tuned in for the 66th annual Grammy award show Sunday night. If you missed it, here is a recap of the most important, jaw-dropping moments.
Awards
The award ceremony was certainly dominated by women this year.
Becoming the first artist to win four of its category, Taylor Swift took home Best Album of the Year for “Midnights.” The album also won Best Pop Vocal Album.
After winning her 13th Grammy, Swift announced a brand new album titled The Tortured Poets Department, set to be released in April. Swifties were not expecting a new album, as “Reputation” has not been re-released yet.
Miley Cyrus took home her first-ever Grammy for Record of the Year for her hit song “Flowers.” Cyrus has been in the music industry for a while now, so fans were excited to see her get recognized for her talent.
SZA led the industry with nine award nominations with her album “SOS.” It took home Best Progressive R&B Album of the Year. Her song “Snooze” won Best R&B Song and “Ghost in the Machine” featuring Phoebe Bridgers was awarded Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Billie Eilish took home numerous awards for her work from the movie “Barbie.” “What Was I Made For” received Song of the Year and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
Performances
Leading the performances Sunday night, Luke Combs performed alongside Tracy Chapman as they sang Chapman’s hit song “Fast Car.” Combs recently released a cover of the single, which led the country charts in summer of 2023. The pair performed beautifully together, and Chapman’s original song is currently at the No.3 spot on Apple music’s Singer/Songwriter chart.
Wearing a trench coat and a large black hat, SZA performed her hit songs “Kill Bill” and “Snooze.” “Snooze” holds the No. 1 spot on Apple music’s R&B chart, with “Kill Bill” holding No.3.
Olivia Rodrigo performed her hit song “Vampire” and Billie Eilish stunned the crowd with “What Was I Made For.”
Travis Scott led an interesting performance in tribute to hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, which featured more chair smashing than singing.
Eighty-year-old Joni Mitchell also took the stage, singing a rendition of her song “Both Sides Now,” marking her first performance ever at the Grammys.
Fit check
Although the Grammys celebrate the music industry, celebrities get a chance to showcase their sense of fashion as well.
Although there is no set attire theme for the show, the metallic look was popular amongst attendees.
Dua Lipa stunned in a Courrèges silver dress, featuring hip cut outs and a chunky silver necklace.
Some artists went for a more risque look. Miley Cyrus displayed–almost–everything with a gold chain mesh inspired … dress? The look reminded me of Cleopatra. But she’s Miley, so she rocked it.
Doja Cat wore a sheer nude-colored dress putting her tattoos on display, paired with a matching red lip and heel combination.
Going for a more classy look, Olivia Rodrigo stunned in a 1995 Versace floor length off-white dress with carefully placed gems up the gown.
Best New Artist award winner Victoria Monét brought her daughter as her guest, wearing matching corset Versace gowns.
Needless to say, artists didn’t hold back on the red carpet.
