Kent State students who participated in an election survey from The Kent Stater/Department of Sociology and Criminology overwhelmingly supported Kamala Harris.
In the survey of 253 students, Harris led Donald Trump 65.1% to 29.3%. The survey also included questions on the Ohio senatorial election and issues of importance going into Election Day.
The survey ran from Oct. 7 to Oct. 25, and students could participate in it by scanning a QR code on flyers around campus, in The Kent Stater print edition and through a link online.

While a majority of students who participated said they plan to vote for Harris, Trump edged out the vice president for support from the freshman class. Among freshman students, 50% said they plan to vote for Trump compared with 47.4% for Harris.
In the waning days of the campaign, Trump has tried closing the gap between Harris for Gen Z supporters by targeting young male voters.

Respondents also listed the issues that mattered most to them this election. The top responses were cost of living, abortion, the economy and the climate.
Democrats have campaigned hard on abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022, particularly focusing on Trump’s appointment of conservative justices.
The former president has made the economy, and Harris’ role in the Biden administration’s handling of it, a central theme of his campaign’s closing arguments.
