The Kent State field hockey team fell by a score of 2-0 against the Miami University (OH) RedHawks and concluded its regular season with a record of 6-11.
Freshman goalkeeper Lieve Jansen made nine saves against the RedHawk attack, but the two that got by ultimately won Miami the game.
KSU mustered only three shots on goal in the game, with two by sophomore forward Maybritt Duwel and one from sophomore midfielder Eva Usoz.
Miami finished their season 7-1 against the Mid-American Conference and 10-7 overall. Although the Flashes fell to 5-3 in MAC play, the game did not affect seeding, as KSU remained in fourth place in the MAC.
The top six teams – Kent State, Miami (No. 3), James Madison (No. 1), Appalachian State (No. 2), Ball State (No. 5), and Ohio (No. 6) will play for the MAC title starting Wednesday.
The RedHawks have won the MAC tournament in each of the last six years.
James Madison and Appalachian State get a bye to the semifinals as the top two seeds in the conference.
As for fourth-seeded Kent State, the team will take on the fifth-seed Ball State Cardinals Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in Oxford, Ohio. The winner will move on to face the No.1-seed James Madison.
The Cardinals finished their season at 5-12 and 4-4 against the MAC.
Earlier in the season, the Flashes blanked Ball State 1-0 at home for their first win of the season. Kent State has also won 15 straight against BSU and is 19-1 all time.
KSU will look to capture its first MAC title since 2016 under first-year head coach Heather Hefner.
