In its first game at Dix Stadium in 25 days, the Kent State football team did not get the result it wanted, losing to the Ohio Bobcats (6-3, 4-1) by a score of 41-0.
In his first collegiate start, true freshman quarterback Ruel Tomlinson struggled, going 8-of-18 passing for 62 yards and an interception. Tomlinson was also sacked five times
The offense was stagnant all game long, picking up 114 yards and going three-and-out in seven of its 12 drives. The 114 yards are its lowest against a Mid-American-Conference team this season and third-lowest overall this season.
As a team, the Flashes rushed for only 52 yards on 34 attempts, averaging 1.53 yards per attempt.
It is the third time the offense has been shut out this season, and the fourth time the team has failed to score a touchdown.
The defense gave up 407 overall yards, extending its streak of allowing over 400 yards to 10 games.
The Flashes were unable to stop the run, giving up 258 yards on 44 attempts for an average of 5.86 yards per carry.
The problems spread to the special teams as well, as the Bobcats scored on the opening kickoff of the second half along with a touchdown on a punt return later in the third quarter.
Kent State will take on the Miami RedHawks (5-4, 4-1) on the road Tuesday at 7 p.m. on the road.
